Can I connect the ZED X and ZED X Mini to a USB3 port?
Last updated: October 22, 2026
No. The ZED X, ZED X Mini, ZED X Nano, and ZED X One cameras use high-speed, high-reliability GMSL2 connectivity; they cannot be connected to the USB 3 ports of desktop or laptop PCs.
How can I capture data from ZED X GMSL2 cameras?
GMSL2 cameras require an NVIDIA® Jetson™ host with GMSL2 inputs. You can use:
- a ZED Box Orin or a ZED Box Mini, embedded PCs with built-in GMSL2 inputs;
- an NVIDIA® Jetson™ development kit equipped with a ZED Link capture card (Mono, Duo, or Quad, depending on the number of cameras); see How can I install the ZED X on NVIDIA® Jetson development kits?;
- a partner carrier board with GMSL2 inputs.
For multi-camera configurations, see How do I use multiple ZED cameras on one computer?
Can I use GMSL2 to USB3 converters?
No. Even if GMSL2 to USB3 converters exist, the ZED X cameras cannot be used with such devices, because they rely on the NVIDIA® Jetson™ onboard ISP for demosaicing, noise reduction, auto exposure, and auto white balance, which are not available on other devices.
If you need a stereo camera for a desktop or laptop PC, the USB 3 ZED 2i and ZED Mini are the right choice.
